Viscous Coupling Unit (VCU) is quite sensitive part of our car. Viscous coupling is quite sensitive part of our car. A lot of car rides with glued viscose or removed from the entire powertrain (transmission shafts and coupling).
The following description of how to make the recovery of such coupling in almost home conditions.

I will not explain the principle of operation of such a coupling, and I’ll send you to the video on YouTube. It shows the design and operation of such a coupling. This knowledge can help us by regeneration.
Let’s start with the dismantling drivetrain, ie:
* front drive shaft
* viscous coupling
* rear drive shaft
Front Propeller Shaft is mounted on the 6 Torx screws (can not remember the size, as it will add check), loosen the bolts. In this way, we will have unfastened the front shaft. Then, remove the rear shaft that is secured with 4 screws, which also need to unscrew. That leaves us still disassembly viscose. It is screwed on two supports, each of which has two screws. This item disassemble at the end, this will make it easier for us to remove the entire assembly. After removing the entire shaft viscose with viscose have in their hands. Now go to the disconnection of three elements. To do this, loosen the screws, which are located near the cross. Do not we have to unscrew the end! Deprotection of the pin located on the screw and we can pull one and the second shaft. It should go without resistance. In my case, one shaft went down without a problem, the other had to be torture :).
Let us now turn to the same regeneration coupling. Well, the coupling should be cut (unfortunately our couplings are Sealed) along the existing weld seam. Note, however, that the tool does not come too far. My viscose was dissected on a lathe. You can try to cut the “bully”, but this must be done with care (generally not recommended, you better take care of someone lathe;)). After cutting will show us the two sets of plates. They are arranged alternately. Some are fixed to the shaft passing through the entire coupling, and the other are attached to the housing (see the movie).
It can be, but need not, cut the second cap, on the other side. It will make it easy tiles. These need to pull out, wash properly and mount them back.
Be sure to place tiles, remember that they are arranged alternately!
After inserting the tiles can weld all the way (if cuted two, if not, skip this step.) Then pour a new coupling, new oil with high viscosity. The flooding must be very careful care not to soil cover, thus preventing us to welding the second lens cap! After pouring the right amount go to welding. The next step is to check whether the welding section and we did not violate coupling weight. Best to check on the lathe there is no beating. If everything is okay then putting everything back together and found the car in reverse order of removal.
Now pay attention! You ask how confident pour oil?
Well, it was not easy for me to find any answer to this question 🙂 On the Internet silence from people who have nothing to regenerate coupling never know. I found somewhere on the forum JEEP ‘s that like someone checked the coupling oil with a viscosity of 100000 cst. It is too high viscosity, as viscose acted as before regeneration was almost all the time glued. I used oil with a viscosity of 60 000 cst. After many tests, trials, etc. I consider performance! The curves viscose rotates freely and elegantly glued in mud.
Now ask yourselves what I mean by “pour the right amount of oil.” Well, viscose should be completed in about 80% of oil, according to my calculations (not saying that correct) came to about 150 ml.
So let’s summarize what is most important:
* disassembled and thoroughly cleaned plates (with their unglued)
* use oil having a viscosity of 60 000 cst an amount of about 150 ml
